A Woodland police officer was struck while sitting inside her vehicle in Woodland on Friday morning, July 30.

[07-30-2021] Yolo County, CA - Police Officer Hurt After a Two-Vehicle Crash in WoodlandThe crash took place on Interstate 5 near County Road 113 in Woodland at approximately 12:45 a.m. A Woodland police officer was responding to a report of a person lighting a fire in the area. The officer then parked their vehicle in a traffic lane as the Woodland fire crew attempted to put out the fire.

As the officer was sitting in their vehicle, an inattentive driver suddenly struck their vehicle. Due to the severity of the impact, the officer’s vehicle crashed into a guardrail and side-swept a fire truck. The officer sustained minor injuries in the mishap and was immediately taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver that struck the officer’s vehicle remained at the scene and willingly cooperated with authorities. Additional information about the accident is unavailable at the moment.

The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed. The California Highway Patrol is further investigating the factors that may have caused the collision to occur.
