Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics

According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 680,000 people in the United States are hurt or killed in hit-and-run accidents each year. The number of hit-and-run fatalities has increased recently, according to statistics. These accidents contributed to 24% of pedestrian fatalities in 2020.

When two vehicles collide in a hit-and-run accident, the driver flees without helping the injured.

Because victims of hit-and-run accidents are frequently neglected or delayed in receiving medical attention, and because car accidents have high social and financial costs, the repercussions are severe.

Distracted driving frequently results in injuries to pedestrians. Conversations with passengers, phone calls, and radio changes are all permitted while driving. When people are multitasking, they are more likely to cross the street.

To protect yourself from harm in such circumstances, dress brightly. The best time to cross the street is when you can see the approaching car.

What You Should Do After an Accident

You should always stop if your car is in an accident. The law severely punishes hit-and-runs. If someone is killed or hurt in an accident and law enforcement is not yet on the scene, they should be immediately reported to the police or CHP. Any passenger in the car at the time must report the collision to the police or the CHP if the vehicle’s driver is physically unable to do so.

Move your car off the road if nobody has been hurt or killed. The police may impound vehicles that are not moved or removed from the road or street.
