Hit-And-Run Crash Statistics

According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, approximately 680,000 people are injured or killed in hit-and-run accidents each year. In recent years, hit-and-run accidents have claimed more lives. Pedestrian fatalities in 2020 were attributed to 24% of these accidents.

Hit-and-run accidents occur when one vehicle collides with another and leaves without helping the injured.

Besides the anguish and financial and emotional costs, hit-and-run accidents may result in injuries due to negligence or delays in treatment.

Pedestrian injuries are primarily caused by distracted driving. During a drive, a driver may converse with passengers, change the radio, or talk on the phone. Multitasking increases your risk of missing someone crossing the street.

When reducing the likelihood of an accident, wearing bright clothing is essential. By crossing the street slowly, approaching cars will be able to see you.

What Do I Do Following an Accident

When involved in a vehicle collision, you should always come to a complete stop. Hit-and-runs are punishable by law. If anyone is killed or injured in a crash and law enforcement is not yet present, the police or CHP should be notified immediately. Whenever a driver cannot report a collision to the police or the CHP, any occupant in the vehicle is required to do so.

Remove your vehicle from the road if no one has been injured or killed. Authorities may impound vehicles not moved or removed from the street or highway.
