[04-03-2023] Two People Struck and Killed After Three-Car Crash in Salton CityA multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks claimed the life of two people in Imperial County on Monday afternoon, April 3, 2023.

According to authorities, the fatal collision occurred around 3:32 p.m. on Highway 86, north of the Border Patrol checkpoint.

Reports indicated that a car with two occupants was rear-ended by a semi-truck driving behind it for unknown reasons and pushed forward, causing it to rear-end another semi-truck in front of it.

The car caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames. Due to the impact, both driver and passenger were killed at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 58-year-old Fresno resident drove one of the semi-trucks, which rear-ended the vehicle. A 60-year-old El Centro resident was driving the semi that was rear-ended by the car.

It was unclear if the car’s occupants were wearing their seat belts. Officials do not believe impairment contributed to the collision, and further investigations are ongoing.
