[05-30-2023] Two Men Killed, Woman Injured After Two-Vehicle Head-On Collision near PescaderoTwo men were killed, and a woman in her 60s was critically injured after a two-vehicle head-on collision near Pescadero, in rural San Mateo County, on Tuesday evening, May 30, 2023.

According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the crash on Highway 1 at Bean Hollow Road was reported to the officers around 6:40 p.m.

The head-on collision involved a southbound Tesla and a northbound Subaru SUV. Preliminary information revealed that one of the vehicles crossed into opposing traffic for unknown reasons, sideswiping the other.

The California Highway Patrol’s Redwood City division said that both cars were submerged in a lagoon after the drivers lost control of their vehicles and swerved to the east side of the road.

The Subaru was partially submerged, while the Tesla was completely submerged in the water. At around 7:30 p.m., rescue teams from various agencies were dispatched to the lagoon to rescue the occupants of both vehicles.

Both male drivers were declared dead at the scene due to fatal injuries. A female passenger in the Subaru remains in critical condition after being airlifted to Stanford Hospital.

Due to the wreck, Highway 1 was closed in both directions.
