[08-07-2023] 21 People Felt Ill After Being Exposed to Hazardous Materials in RedwoodA hazardous material exposure caused 21 people to feel sick in Redwood on Monday afternoon, August 7, 2023.

The Redwood City Fire Department responded to the accident on the 1100 block of Island Drive in Redwood Shores around 12:30 p.m.

According to reports, a chemical was accidentally released in a clean room. It was later discovered that the leaked gas was Freon. A faulty AC unit was found to be the source of the leak as it pumped Freon into the workplace.

21 people have been exposed, but 16 have not shown any symptoms. Five more people are receiving treatment for nausea, and two of them have bloody noses.

It was not necessary to take the victims to the hospital. There was no disclosure of the identities of the people involved.

The crews are still searching for which HVAC unit failed. Investigations are ongoing.
