DUI Accident Statistics

In California, DUI charges have severe penalties. Despite the undesirable consequences, DUI incidents are still on the rise. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, DUI accidents kill 10,000 people yearly and account for over one-third of all traffic-related deaths.

According to data from the Alcohol-Impaired Driving Fatality Study, there were 10,142 alcohol-impaired driving deaths in the United States in 2019. In 2020, 11,654 people died in car accidents due to drunk driving, a 14% increase from 2019.

DUI statistics should act as a wake-up call for everyone to take preventative steps in order to limit the number of these accidents. Almost all DUI accidents are preventable, and the idea of a victim suffering significant injuries for the rest of their life is tragic.
