Car Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 6.3 million car accidents in the United States in 2018. This figure includes minor and major accidents, but most crashes resulted in only property damage. However, nearly 2.5 million people were injured in car accidents last year, and over 36,000 lost their lives.

While many car accidents are caused by driver error, many other factors can contribute to the likelihood of an accident occurring. These include weather conditions, road conditions, vehicle defects, and more.

In order to help reduce the number of car accidents that occur each year, drivers need to be aware of the risks and take steps to minimize them. This includes obeying speed limits, driving defensively, and avoiding distractions.
