[12-06-2021] San Diego County, CA – U.S. Marine Killed After a Deadly Crash near Camp Pendleton

A U.S. Marine who was helping out two people involved in a prior crash was killed after getting hit on a freeway near Camp Pendleton on early Monday morning, December 6, 2021.

[12-06-2021] San Diego County, CA - U.S. Marine Killed After a Deadly Crash near Camp PendletonThe fatal crash happened at approximately 3:22 a.m. in the area of South Las Pulgas Road near Camp Pendleton.

A southbound Ford Edge was lost control and crashed for unclear reasons. The car was disabled on the freeway with no lights on.

A U.S. Marine saw the initial crash and stopped to assist the driver and the passenger. Unfortunately, as the U.S. Marine was helping them, a box truck suddenly crashed into both the SUV and the U.S. Marine.

The U.S. Marine was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the SUV driver and passenger were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their condition and identities have not been disclosed.

After being released from the hospital, the SUV driver will be arrested on suspicion of various felonies.

The case is under further investigation.
