Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcycle riders accounted for 14% of traffic fatalities in 2020, 18% of occupant fatalities, and 4% of occupant injuries, according to a report by the National Safety Council, although making up only 3% of registered cars and 0.6% of vehicle kilometers driven. These deaths could have been avoided if the victims had been wearing helmets.

The number of deaths per 100,000,000 kilometers traveled in 2020 was 23% higher than in 2019. Over the previous decade, both the death rate and the overall death toll had risen by around a quarter. To date, there have been 5,579 fatalities for every 100,000 vehicle kilometers traveled (a rate of 31.64).

There are 785,424 motorcycles registered in the Golden State. Motorcycle riders account for over 90% of all roadway fatalities and injuries in the state. About 6 percent of these fatalities can be attributed to accidents in which no helmet was used.

It is more challenging to get back on a motorcycle than a car after being in an accident, and the statistics back up this claim. You might get where you’re going more quickly and easily if you had four wheels instead of two. Think about the unique skills you’ll need to develop to handle a motorcycle competently.
