[06-28-2020] Sacramento, CA – One Man Killed After a Fatal Pedestrian Accident at Gerber Road

Gerber RoadA 30-year-old man identified as Derrick Price was killed after getting struck by a vehicle in Sacramento on Sunday, June 28th.

According to the initial reports from local authorities, the victim was struck at Gerber and Elk Grove Florin roads. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A day later, a vigil was held for him by his friends and family at the location of the crash. Another pedestrian accident occurred during the vigil. A passing vehicle reportedly slowed down to watch the vigil but struck another car. The car then swerved into the memorial and hit three people participating in the vigil.

Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation is Underway

The California Highway Police is currently investigating both of the crashes, they will attempt to determine the cause and liability during the investigation.

Pedestrians are more vulnerable to the dangers on the road in comparison to passengers in a private vehicle. Passengers of private cars are protected by seatbelts and airbags, which can decrease the fatality rate of an accident while pedestrians are not as protected from the dangers on the road.

Pedestrians currently make up a large percentage of traffic fatalities in the past 33 years. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. have increased by 27 percent from 2007-2016 while other traffic-related deaths decreased by 14 percent. Some common reasons for pedestrian accidents are negligent driving, speeding, and drivers failing to yield to pedestrians.

When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Sacramento wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal pedestrian accidents to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys have the resources that can help them prove the negligence of the liable party. They can re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the responsible party’s phone and texting records.
