Fatal Head-On Crash Statistics

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of bodily injury in the United States. Every year, about two million individuals are wounded in car accidents. California alone has around 200,000 of them. Riverside County, the state’s fourth most populous region, is home to approximately 2,000,000 people and is considered one of the most dangerous places to drive in.

One of the most deadly types of car accidents is head-on collision. Typically, head-on crashes occur when vehicles stray from their lane unintentionally or suddenly.

Head-on crashes are prevalent on freeways and at traffic lights, stop signs, and blind junctions. Head-on crashes on freeways typically occur when drivers enter the incorrect way on on-ramps or off-ramps, which can be caused by alcohol or drug usage.

Although head-on collisions account for only 2% of all accidents, they account for 10% of all roadway deaths in the United States.

Head-on crashes can be caused by drunk driving, distracted driving, inexperience, or even mechanical failure.
