01-28-2023-Drunk-Driver-Crashed-Car-into-Tree-near-St.-Helena-Killed-One-ManA Fallbrook man was killed after the vehicle he was a passenger on hit a tree due to a DUI driver north of St. Helena in Napa County on Saturday evening, January 28, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-vehicle crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the southbound lane of Highway 29, just south of Big Tree Road.

The deceased victim was in the front seat of a 2019 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Ryan C., 26, of Palm Springs. The truck reportedly veered off the right side of the road and smashed into a tree, fatally injuring the passenger. His identity was withheld until the next of kin was notified.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center. Officers took him into custody on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. He was held in the Napa County jail on a $500,000 bail.

The collision is still being investigated, and CHP stated it is attempting to get in touch with any witnesses who may have any information on the crash.
