According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly pedestrian crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Avenue 62 in the unincorporated community of Thermal.

The male pedestrian was declared dead at the scene after being reportedly hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Avenue 62. No further details on his identity were released.

Traffic was redirected to an alternate route to Mecca during the momentary closure of the area following the fatal collision.

CHP officials stated that the driver of the car involved was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the crash.
