[02-12-2023] Motorcyclist Killed After Car Crash in Palm SpringsA motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a passenger van in Palm Springs, Riverside County, on Sunday afternoon, February 12, 2023.

The Palm Springs Fire Department reported that the fatal crash occurred at about 4:40 p.m. at the East Ramon Road and South Avenida Caballeros intersection.

The motorcycle rider was declared dead at the site, while the van driver was reportedly unharmed. It remained unclear if the passenger van had other occupants during the crash.

The circumstances leading to the deadly collision are still under investigation. No other information was released on whether speeding, alcohol, or drugs played a role.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident Statistics

The National Safety Council reports that motorcycle riders were to blame for 14% of traffic fatalities in 2020, 18% of occupant deaths, and 4% of occupant injuries. Riders made up fewer than 3% of all licensed motorists and less than 0.6% of all vehicle miles driven. Fewer would have been injured or killed if helmets had been used.

Deaths rose 11% from 2019 to 2020, with a corresponding 23% rise in the death rate per 100,000,000 kilometers traveled. The death toll and death rate rose by about 20% and 27%, respectively, during the decade. The latest death toll figures are as follows: With a rate of 5,579 for every 100,000,000 kilometers traveled (a rate of 31.64).
