[02-16-2023] 56-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Collision on Interstate 680A pedestrian collision killed a 56-year-old man, identified as Timoteo F., in Concord early Thursday morning, February 16, 2023.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 4:35 a.m. on southbound Interstate 680 near the Treat Boulevard exit.

Authorities stated that the 56-year-old man was within the traffic lanes, and the Toyota Corolla driver could not avoid the collision. The Toyota driver was not injured.

Officials believe a second vehicle struck Fernandez-Ortiz and that other witnesses may have seen it.

The collision immediately blocked all freeway lanes, and traffic was temporarily diverted to Monument Boulevard.

By 5:20 a.m.,two lanes had reopened, and all lanes had reopened by 6 a.m. when a Sig Alert for severe traffic was canceled.
