A crash between a semi-truck and a black sedan south of Bakersfield claimed the lives of two people early Friday morning, February 25, 2022.

[02-25-2022] Kern County, CA - Two People Killed, One Injured in Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Near BakersfieldAccording to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 4:00 a.m. near Herring and Old River Road.

According to Kelly Walker, a sergeant with CHP Buttonwillow, the black sedan was traveling westbound on Herring Road, and the semi-truck was traveling southbound on Old River Road.

According to the CHP, the intersection of Herring and Old River Road is a T intersection with a stop sign for motorists traveling east and west on Herring Road. The Old River Road is open and flowing.

The CHP further reported that the black sedan passed through the stop sign directly in front of the semi-truck and was struck.

The sedan, which had three occupants, overturned on the freeway shoulder.

According to CHP, two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The semi-driver truck’s escaped injury.

There are no other details available. The crash remains under investigation.
