[03-28-2023] Pursuit of Wrong-Way Driver on Bay Bridge Sent Two Children to HospitalTwo young children were sent to the hospital with possible injuries after a pursuit of a driver going the wrong way in Alameda County on Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit started shortly before 4:00 a.m. on the Bay Bridge in Oakland and ended in San Leandro.

Officers were dispatched to the bridge in response to a report of a wrong-way vehicle using the eastbound lanes while traveling westbound. An officer attempted to stop the driver, but she refused. The officer then hit her car, causing it to spin around.

She then crossed the bridge again in the proper direction while traveling at a speed of roughly 90 mph, after which she continued south on Interstate 880 with the officer still pursuing her.

A brief negotiation occurred, according to the police, when she drove to her grandmother’s house in San Leandro. Eventually, the unidentified woman was arrested.

The two children with her, ages 6 and 8, were transported to the hospital along with the woman with possible injuries. No further details on the children’s conditions were released.

No other information is immediately available as the authorities continue their investigation.
