[05-16-2022] Madera County, CA – Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 41 Results in Multiple Injuries

According to the California Highway Patrol Merced Communications Center (MCC), multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 41 (SR-41) on Monday, May 16, 2022.

During CHP’s preliminary investigation, the following information was discovered: Guadalupe T., 52, of Fresno, was traveling southbound on SR-41 in a 2008 Honda Accord at an unknown speed.

At the same time, Gabriel J., 26, of Frankfurt, Germany, was approaching the Honda in a 2020 GMC Canyon northbound, north of Road 406, at approximately 55 mph.

Tijerina made an unsafe turn for an unknown reason, allowing the Honda to cross the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, colliding head-on with the GMC.

Both vehicles’ airbags deployed as a result of the collision.

After the initial collision, the Honda spun out and collided with the rock embankment east of SR-41.

The Honda came to a stop on its wheels following the collision, facing north, blocking SR-41’s northbound lane.

The GMC came to a stop on its wheels, facing eastbound on SR-41, blocking the northbound lane.

Tijerina was trapped inside the Honda and had to be rescued by firefighters.

Tijerina was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment after suffering major injuries.

Jastram and his female passenger, Ann Z. were injured but not taken to the hospital.

At the time of the collision, it appears that everyone was wearing their seatbelts.

This crash does not appear to have been caused by alcohol or drugs. The crash remains under investigation.
