Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Even though single-vehicle collisions are among the most lethal on California’s roads, many motorists aren’t aware of this fact.

Sixty-two percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As a result of California’s high number of single-vehicle accidents, drivers must be aware of all of the various factors at play.

A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a wide range of factors. It is common for a single-car accident to occur if the driver is speeding or making sharp turns on a wet or slippery road and loses control. A large branch or a piece of debris from a truck’s bed may also litter the road.

An accident resulting from an unexpected occurrence such as an animal jumping in front of your car is likely to limit your compensation under your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan.

Contra Costa County Car Accident Lawyers

Because of their injuries, many car accident victims are unable to return to work or school. Negligent drivers are not exonerated from responsibility for their actions even if a victim is killed. Any of the deceased victim’s surviving family members (or legal heirs) can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver who caused their death as a result of their carelessness.

This process is extremely difficult for them to go through. Victims must testify about their losses in front of strangers in depositions and trials. One’s mental health can take a significant toll during the course of a lengthy legal battle.

It is critical to hold negligent drivers accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence has resulted in an unnecessarily large death toll. For grieving families, filing a wrongful death claim can be draining, but it can also bring some solace. This is good news for everyone who drives in California.
