According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the collision occurred at 2:09 p.m. in San Francisco Bay, close to Angel Island.

The collision between a sailboat and a 25-foot center console pleasure craft motorboat caused the motorboat to spin out of control until authorities could seize it.

The crash caused Wells, who was driving the motorboat, to be ejected. Witnesses pulled him out of the water, but he died from his wounds.

According to San Francisco fire officials, four people were on the sailboat, and no one reported being hurt.
