[07-06-2022] San Luis Obispo, CA - Two People Dead in Two-Vehicle Head-On Collision near NipomoAccording to the California Highway Patrol, two men died in a head-on two-vehicle collision that temporarily shut down Highway 1 near Nipomo early Wednesday morning, July 6, 2022.

The crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. southbound on Highway 1, approaching Winterhaven Way.

On Highway 1, a 2005 Dodge Ram was moving southbound when the driver turned left onto Winterhaven Way, cutting across the northbound lane in front of a 2007 Honda Civic that was moving north.

According to the CHP, the drivers were powerless to prevent a head-on collision.

The Dodge driver suffered only minor injuries, while the two drivers of the Honda Civic perished in the collision. Both victims’ identities and ages have not yet been disclosed.

At Willow Road and Winterhaven Way, the crash shut down both lanes of Highway 1, temporarily closing it and creating significant traffic jams.
