What to Do After a Car Accident

Car crashes can happen anywhere and at any time. Because of this, we need to be prepared at all times. Those involved in car accidents know how important it is to be prepared. Whether you are the injured or the family of the killed victim, it is essential to realize that your words and actions starting at the accident site can substantially affect the outcome of your claim or lawsuit. Consider the following recommendations to maximize the value of your injury claim:

  • Collecting as much information as possible is essential at the scene of an accident. Exchange information with the other parties involved, if applicable.
  • Immediately report this to the authorities and do not admit fault. A copy of the accident report can be obtained from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the police station where the report was filed within a few days. You must submit it together with your claim.
  • Collect as much information as you can on potential witnesses. Quickly get their names and contact information.
  • Find a doctor right now. Get medical attention if you’ve been hurt, even if you don’t think you need it.
  • The insurance provider must be informed. Only settle with other insurance companies once you have spoken with a California lawyer specializing in car accidents.
