Bicycle Accident Statistics

Bicycles are considered vehicles under California law. Bicyclists must act as they would when operating a motor vehicle. They must abide by traffic laws, which include stopping at red lights and moving with traffic flow.

Cyclists make less than 1% of all trips taken in the United States. However, in a collision, bicyclists continue to have a higher risk of suffering harm and passing away than occupants of motor vehicles.

In 2019, road traffic injuries claimed the lives of 843 bicyclists. This accident is a 3 percent decrease from the 868 fatalities among bikers in 2018. Bicycle fatalities have gone down by 16 percent since 1975, but they have gone up by 36 percent since their low point in 2010.

Many of these accidents involved drivers who disregarded the right of way, failed to look both ways for bikes before turning, running stop signs or red lights, or were otherwise negligent.
A bicycle accident may result from distracted driving, drunk driving, or careless driving.

San Diego County Bicycle Accident Lawyer

Following the law, a negligent driver must make up for all losses suffered by the collision victims. If you have a headache that heals on its own in a few days, this could be a relatively minor amount. It could also be a sizable sum, as in the instance of a severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) that renders the victim permanently incapable of working.

A serious accident is likely to occur because bikes can travel at high speeds and are frequently involved in collisions with other vehicles. Due to this, if you need to make a claim or submit a bicycle accident lawsuit, you must have an experienced bicycle accident lawyer on your side.

However, you deserve more than just financial support to pay for your medical expenses. It would be best if you weren’t liable for related costs when someone else caused the accident.
