[08-29-2022] Solano County, CA - Five Vehicles Crashed After a Big Rig Accident Injured Three People on I-80 in VacavilleA big-rig accident caused five more cars to crash, injuring three people on Interstate 80 on Monday, August 29, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), an off-duty Fairfield police officer reported the big rig crash at roughly 5:04 a.m. in Vacaville.

Officers responded to the scene and found a big rig with two open transporters that had dropped its load of hundreds of tomatoes across several lanes, closing both the westbound and eastbound near Alamo.

According to investigators, the big rig’s collision with another vehicle close to the Davis Street onramp caused the accident. Tomatoes were scattered over the eastbound lanes when the truck’s driver lost control and collided with the center divider. Vehicles collided with one another as they tried to drive through the sauce.

According to CHP, the victims suffered various injuries, including fractured bones. The big-rig driver, who had minor injuries, was one of the three patients admitted to the hospital.

The CHP stated that several lanes would be closed for hours. The accident caused miles of traffic backup in both directions, and the agency encouraged vehicles to use other routes.

All closed lanes were reopened on that same day.
