Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Multi-vehicle accidents are a serious problem in Los Angeles. According to the California Highway Patrol, there were 1,817 multi-vehicle accidents in Los Angeles County in 2017. That is an average of five per day. Multi-vehicle collisions are more complicated compared to other types of traffic accidents. These accidents are more difficult to resolve than typical since many people and vehicles are involved.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigated this issue and discovered that about two million multi-vehicle collisions occur yearly. When the total number of accidents in a year is added together, this is about one-third of the total.

Multi-vehicle accidents often involve a chain reaction, with one vehicle rear-ending another, hitting another car, and so on. This can result in a massive pile-up with dozens of vehicles involved. The resulting damage can be extensive, and the injuries can be catastrophic. In some cases, multi-vehicle accidents have even resulted in fatalities.

The best way to avoid a multi-vehicle accident is to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. If you suddenly see a vehicle ahead of you braking, slow down and give yourself plenty of space. And always be sure to buckle up – it could save your life.
