Motor Vehicle Crash Statistics

Motorcycle accidents are a major cause of injury and death on roads across the country. While motorcycles make up a small percentage of the vehicles on the road, they are involved in a disproportionate number of accidents. There were 474 motorcycle fatalities in California in 2019.

Several factors contribute to the high rate of motorcycle accidents. First, motorcycles are less visible than other vehicles, making it more difficult for drivers to see them. Second, motorcycles lack the physical protection that cars and trucks provide, leaving riders more vulnerable to injuries in an accident.

Finally, motorcycle riders are more likely to take risks on the road, such as speeding or weaving through traffic, which increases the chances of an accident. While there is no single solution to reducing motorcycle accidents, awareness and education are critical to progress. Raising awareness of the risks associated with motorcycle riding and teaching riders how to operate their vehicles safely can help reduce the number of accidents on our roads.
