DUI Accident Statistics

Nevada County has a small population, especially compared to counties like Sacramento and Los Angeles. However, vehicular accidents continue to occur throughout the area, particularly on dark, rural roads and highways. While several factors lead to accidents in the region, one of the most deadly is driving while intoxicated.

From 2008 to 2020, there were 5,030 vehicle accidents with injuries reported in Nevada County. 870 of the 5,030 accidents included an intoxicated driver, and 763 were predominantly the result of DUI.

According to the Alcohol-Impaired Driving Fatality Study, there were 10,142 alcohol-intoxicated driving fatalities in the United States in 2019. Drunk drivers are involved in around 29% of all fatal traffic accidents in the United States.

DUI statistics should not be taken lightly. DUIs remains one of the most prevalent criminal acts in California, despite several restrictions and public awareness initiatives.
