Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

In California, a shockingly high number of people die in accidents with only one car. If only one car is in an accident, only that car will be hurt. You might have gone off the road or hit something already there. Bad weather, drunk or tired driving, and low visibility play a role in these accidents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that 62% of all traffic deaths in California are caused by accidents involving only one car. Drivers in California must always watch for possible dangers, so they don’t get distracted.

Many things can lead to a crash with just one car. Accidents and runaways are more likely when roads are wet, especially when drivers are going fast or making sharp turns. Some things that could be dangerous on the side of the route include a piece of truck cargo or a fallen branch.

Even if the other driver was careless, you might not be able to get compensation in a single-car accident because of how your insurance policy is set up.
