[10-21-2022] Kings County, CA - Unidentified Motorcycle Rider Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle in High-Speed Chase In HanfordAccording to the authorities, a high-speed chase resulted in injuries to a motorcycle rider after being struck; the suspect was arrested after hitting a concrete center divider in Hanford Friday night, October 21, 2022.

The crash transpired around 11:30 p.m. on Jersey Avenue and 16th Avenue in Kings County.

While approaching the area, the deputy saw a Kia Optima speeding north on 16th Ave at an extremely high rate of speed.

The driver refused to pull over when the deputy approached, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

Because the driver was going over 100 miles per hour, the deputy had to call off the chase.

The deputy kept going in the same direction and saw the Kia, which had been careening around, knocking other vehicles off the road and colliding with a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver kept going north on Irwin St. toward Hanford until he crashed into a center divider, rendering his vehicle undrivable.

Andrew D., 19, the driver, and a female passenger of the same age, who both fled the scene but were quickly apprehended, were wearing seat belts.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

There were 5,014 fatalities in motorcycle accidents in 2012, as reported by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation. The decline accelerated in the early 1980s, but since 1998, a consistent uptick has continued through 2008.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that motorcyclists are at a 16-fold higher risk of injury and a 35-fold higher risk of death in a collision than car occupants.

Nearly two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents happen at intersections, and driver inattention is a significant factor in many of these tragedies. Due to their compact size, motorcycles are especially vulnerable to collisions.

Most of the roads in California are mapped out and described on motorcycleroads.com. In terms of motorcycle registrations, this state tops the list nationally. According to experts, there are around 800,000 motorcycles registered in the state.

Furthermore, it is estimated that there were 15,527 motorcyclists injured and 541 motorcyclists killed in accidents across the United States in 2017.
