A California Highway Patrol Officer was hurt after a traffic crash involving an uncooperative driver near the Bay Bridge toll plaza on Sunday afternoon, November 26, 2021.

[11-26-2021] San Francisco County, CA - CHP Officer Hurt Following a Car Crash near Bay Bridge Toll PlazaThe accident happened at approximately 4:00 p.m. The California Highway Patrol received information about an uncooperative motorist in a tow truck on the toll plaza.

The tow vehicle driver originally fled the tow plaza, heading back towards Oakland in the wrong direction, but eventually turned around and slammed a CHP vehicle in the toll plaza.

The tow truck driver then attempted to hit another patrol car but struck a civilian vehicle instead. The driver in the civilian vehicle was uninjured in the mishap, while the CHP officer sustained minor injuries.

The tow truck driver was later identified as 46-year-old Michael C. Authorities determined that the tow truck driver stole his nephew’s vehicle before the accident. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The tow truck driver was then booked at the Santa Rita Jail on several felony charges. The Oakland Police Department is further investigating the case.
