Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Pedestrian accidents are unlike other types of accidents just because pedestrians have no protection in an accident. Those who are riding in cars are in vehicles that weigh an average of at least 4,000 pounds and have seat belts and airbags to protect them.

Cases of pedestrian accidents in California have been increasing at an alarming rate. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, 6,590 pedestrians were killed in 2019 alone, the highest recorded number in 30 years.

Pedestrian accidents often lead to severe injury and even death. This is because pedestrians do not have protection against fatal accidents, unlike passengers of private vehicles and motorcycle riders.

Some common reasons pedestrian accidents occur are negligent driving, speeding, and drivers failing to yield to pedestrians. It is vital to seek the help of an experienced attorney when facing cases like this.
