Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are investigating the accident and will attempt to determine the cause and the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. It’s apparent in this case that the liability falls on the SUV driver as she intentionally fled the scene. The suspect will most likely face criminal charges.

Fleeing from the accident is a crime in itself. Unfortunately, around 11 percent of all crash cases involve a hit-and-run driver. Hit-and-run drivers would often leave the scene due to intoxication, driving without a license, or fear of being arrested if they remained at the scene.

Pedestrians are more susceptible to the dangers on the roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 5900 pedestrians were killed in the U.S. back in 2016. In 2018, there were approximately 6.227 pedestrian deaths in the U.S., a 250 increase from the previous year. This alarming number of pedestrian accidents throughout recent years can be attributed to the rise in technology, as more drivers are now distracted with their smartphone devices instead of entirely directing their attention on the road.

When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced San Bernardino hit and run accident attorney to conduct an independent probe. Attorneys have the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, and review applicable insurance coverage for their client. All possible contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined during the independent investigation as well.
