[11-18-2020] San Diego, CA – Construction Worker Dead After Getting Hit by a Car in Spring Valley

A construction worker identified as 41-year-old Emilio Zaragoza was killed after a vehicle hit him on the roadway in a non-traffic zone in Spring Valley on Wednesday night, November 18.

The fatal accident took place on eastbound State Route 94 in Spring Valley at approximately 12:10 a.m. Zaragoza was performing roadway maintenance in a non-traffic zone when a Mitsubishi crossed into the area and struck him.

Cones were placed on the right side of the road while motorists were permitted to use the right side. The driver of the vehicle wound up traveling on the wrong side of the road, hitting the construction worker. The construction worker was dragged 40 feet from the scene.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident. He was later pronounced dead. The driver that struck the victim was identified as a 24-year-old female El Cajon resident. She remained at the scene and cooperated with local authorities.

The reason why the woman veered off into the wrong side of the road has not been established.

Local authorities are currently investigating the case. They will attempt to determine the reason why the driver traveled on the wrong side of the road.
