A Chumash Casino employee sustained minor injuries after getting struck by a hit-and-run driver in Santa Ynez on Wednesday morning, June 10th.
According to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at around 9 a.m.
The victim was struck on Highway 246 at Casino Drive by a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The driver did not stop to help the victim and fled the scene. The victim was rushed to the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital to receive treatment.
The driver of the Honda was later identified as a 53-year-old Paramount resident named Pyon Huesok. The California Highway Patrol found him and his vehicle near Highway 154 and Armour Ranch Road. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run.
DUI Hit-and-Run Accident Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently investigating the case.
In most states, drivers are required to remain at the scene during an accident and wait for the police to arrive. Unfortunately, approximately 11 percent of all crashes are caused by a hit-and-run driver. There are several reasons why suspects would flee from the scene. Some of the common causes are intoxication, driving without a license, and fear of getting arrested if they remained at the scene.
When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced Santa Barbara personal injury attorney specializing in hit-and-run accidents to conduct an independent probe. Attorneys have the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, analyze surveillance footage from the scene, and review applicable insurance coverage for their client. All possible contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined during the independent investigation as well.
