[09-09-2019] Two Injured When Car Slams Into Super 8 Motel

Two people got trapped in the wreckage, and a Super 8 Motel was severely damaged when a car smashed into the building Monday night.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to pull two people from the wreckage of a car crash in Echo Park after it careened into the lobby of a Super 8 motel.

A female was driving northbound on Sunset Blvd. close to Vin Scully Avenue when she tried to pass another vehicle at about 9 pm. She first struck a fire hydrant and then crashed into the reception area of an East Hollywood Super 8 motel, authorities said. The motorist and passenger got critically injured in the crash, which occurred at about 9 pm Monday at 1341 W. Sunset Blvd.

LAPD Sgt. Kurt Smith said the motorist was likely speeding & officers were investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident. A second car traveling northbound on Sunset Blvd. was also involved, although officials did not state how.

The car crash was violent enough to rip-off an entire wall from the reception area of the hotel, but no one inside the building was injured. Paramedics took the two occupants of the automobile to a hospital. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
