Street Racing Accident Statistics

Speed limits provide an important role in protecting drivers. There is no doubt that speeding is dangerous. Excessive speeds can result in fatalities in seconds, killing innocent motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Speed is frequently a major contributing element in deadly car accidents. Furthermore, speed exacerbates the severity of any injuries incurred in an automobile collision.

High-speed road racing is one of the most dangerous activities drivers may engage in, especially if they aren’t professional racecar drivers. They may damage others, and it is also possible that they will die due to their actions.

A citation for street racing has been issued to nine out of every 100,000 drivers on average. Furthermore, in 2017, the average number of vehicle-related deaths per 100,000 people was 11.4, and the rate of drivers with a past speeding offense was 11.31 percent nationally.

California took the lead with about 188 documented street racing-related deaths, followed by Texas with 128 deaths.

Even more concerning, in the second half of the decade, fatalities from street racing incidents increased by more than 33%.

Road racing fatalities were roughly six times more likely than other types of fatal incidents to occur on urban freeways and at speeds less than 65 mph.

A passenger car cannot resist the power of an impact in a high-speed collision, which can easily crush a vehicle. The less effective restraint measures like airbags and seat belts are at greater speeds.
