[03-17-2023] Drunk Wrong-Way Driver Caused Multi-Vehicle Crash, Injuring Two PeopleTwo people were injured following a multi-vehicle collision involving a DUI wrong-way driver in Oakland on Friday evening, March 17, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the three-vehicle crash occurred around 6:09 p.m. along Interstate 880 at the High Street off-ramp.

The officers learned of a driver reportedly traveling south on the freeway’s northbound lanes before causing a crash involving two other vehicles, the circumstances of which remain unclear.

The 45-year-old male wrong-way driver was detained for driving under the influence and transported to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition.

One of the other drivers sustained unspecified wounds and was sent to the hospital, while the third car driver was unharmed. Neither driver was identified.

Two of the highway’s lanes were blocked for roughly an hour, causing the traffic to back up past the Oakland Coliseum before all lanes reopened at about 7:15 p.m.
