[03-19-2023] Four Killed, One Injured After Multi-Car Collision on 71 FreewayA multi-vehicle collision killed four people and injured one another in Chino Hills early Sunday night, March 18, 2023.

The deadly crash reportedly occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the 71 Freeway near the Central Avenue exits.

Authorities received several calls to report a driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. Minutes later, a crash occurred involving four to five vehicles.

Responders attempted to rescue several people trapped inside a burning vehicle but could not do so due to the intense flames.

The first officer tried to rescue several people trapped inside a burning white sedan, but the intense flames forced them to back away.

Four people were later pronounced dead inside the vehicle. Another person was taken to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition.

The southbound lanes of the 71 Freeway were closed during the investigation.

The CHP has not revealed which vehicle was driving in the wrong direction or given any names.
