Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

The number of people killed in car accidents decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016, according to data compiled by the Governors Highway Safety Association. Yet, the percentage of pedestrian deaths rose by 27% throughout the same time frame.

This data suggests that even going for a stroll along American streets and roadways is getting more dangerous with each passing year.

In 2016, there were 5,977 fatalities involving pedestrians in the United States. Around 88 people were dying per minute by the end of that year. More than 137,000 pedestrians were injured in traffic incidents the following year in 2017.

Throughout the state of California in 2012, pedestrians suffered over 14,000 injuries and 893 fatalities. Statistics show that this is the leading cause of injury for Californian pedestrians.
