Workplace Accident Statistics

Construction, industrial, farming, and transportation workers are particularly vulnerable to injury. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), over 4,500 workers die in the United States each year, with thousands more suffering serious injuries.

Construction, according to OSHA, is responsible for approximately one in every five worker deaths in the United States each year. It is one of the country’s deadliest businesses, claiming an average of 13 people per day. Construction is extremely hazardous due to the utilization of heights, heavy machinery, electrical equipment, portable tools, and motor vehicles.

In 2015, work-related incidents were responsible for 2,054 of the 4,836 overall workplace deaths (26 percent ). Almost half of these fatalities were caused by a huge truck. A farm tractor was the most common vehicle involved in non-roadway deaths (73 deaths).

It should be noted that these statistics only include worker deaths and do not include serious illnesses or injuries. Hundreds of more workers in the United States suffer minor to major injuries while performing work-related tasks.
