[04-19-2022] Los Angeles County, CA - Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Boyle Heights Results in Death of One PersonAccording to authorities, an unidentified person was struck and killed by a vehicle on the 5 Freeway early Tuesday morning, April 19, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was struck shortly before 3:00 a.m. in the southbound lane of the freeway near South Lorena Street in Boyle Heights.

The person was declared dead on the freeway at 3:10 a.m.

The Los Angeles Fire Department and the driver who hit the person remained on the scene after the collision.

According to the CHP, the driver of the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq was not injured and was not arrested.

The pedestrian’s presence on the freeway is unknown. The CHP received reports of a man walking on the southbound side of the freeway south of Euclid Avenue before the person was struck.

Police set up a traffic stop north of the reported location, but the pedestrian’s body was discovered in the second lane.

The pedestrian’s identity has not been disclosed.

According to CHP Officer Robert Gomez, traffic on the freeway was disrupted for about two hours, but lanes have since reopened.
