One person was struck and killed[05-25-2023] One Person Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Downtown Oakland by a vehicle near downtown Oakland Thursday evening, May 25, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred on eastbound I-980, at the 12th Street on-ramp, at about 10:52 p.m.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately explain why they thought the person was on the roadway.

They were working to confirm the victim’s identity for public release after notifying their next of kin.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the officers.
