A 40-year-old man identified as Kenneth Atkins was killed in a fatal head-on traffic collision near Caruthers in Fresno on Wednesday morning, September 16.
The fatal collision transpired in the area of Elkhorn Avenue and Highway 41 at approximately 6:00 a.m. The crash involved a Nissan pickup truck, a Chevy Tahoe, and a Hyundai Veloster. The Nissan was initially heading north in the southbound lanes of Highway 41 when it sideswiped the Chevy, which caused the Nissan to spin out of control. The Nissan then collided head-on with a Hyundai.
The pickup truck caught on fire as the result of the collision. Both the driver of the pickup and the driver of the Veloster were pinned inside their vehicles. Both drivers were later pronounced dead at the scene. The four occupants of the Chevy were unharmed.
Multi-Vehicle Collision Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the fatal collision. When three or more cars collide on the roadway, it is considered a multi-vehicle collision. This type of car accident is commonly caused by a “chain reaction,” when one car bumps into another, which causes the other to hit the next vehicle.
Multi-vehicle collisions are commonly caused by drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving. It can be quite challenging to pinpoint liability during a multi-vehicle collision investigation, so it is essential to hire an experienced Fresno County car accident attorney to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys have the resources to help the victim’s family to receive the justice that they deserve. They can re-interview important witnesses, review any related surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.
Wrongful Death Attorney for Victims of Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collisions in Fresno County
It can be quite stressful and emotionally draining to suddenly lose a loved one due to a fatal head-on collision. Pending the official investigation results, the victim’s family is entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim with their attorney’s assistance. Through the wrongful death claim, the victim’s family can seek compensation for the damages (such as loss of companionship and income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress) that the accident has caused them. A wrongful death attorney can serve as a helpful legal guide for the grieving family during this difficult time while ensuring that the guilty party will be held accountable for their alleged crime.
