Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

According to the National Safety Council, car accidents killed an estimated 38,800 people. In addition, it is projected that another 4.4 million people were seriously hurt and required medical attention.

Multi-vehicle incidents account for less than 10% of all collisions in a given year. Yet, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), they result in a disproportionate number of fatalities.

Multi-vehicle accidents are only one type of automotive accident. It is common for three or more automobiles to be involved. A “chain-reaction usually produces this type of collision,” in which one car collides with another, perhaps causing the other vehicle to collide with another.

Drunk driving, speeding, and inattentive driving are all significant causes of multi-vehicle crashes. It can be difficult to determine liability during a multi-vehicle collision investigation, which is why hiring an experienced personal injury attorney to perform an independent investigation is critical.

Most “accidents” are the result of carelessness, irresponsibility, or breaching the law. Accidents can be avoided by paying attention to the road, being competent behind the wheel, and maintaining your vehicle properly.
