An unidentified man was killed after getting struck by a car in the City Heights area of San Diego on Monday night, August 24.

According to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 7:40 p.m. on University Avenue near 36th Street. A 42-year-old man was crossing the street on University Avenue, outside a crosswalk when a 2007 Nissan Maxima suddenly struck him.

The 2007 Nissan was reportedly heading eastbound before the collision. The driver remained at the site and cooperated with local authorities. The reason why the accident occurred is currently unclear. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
