[01-03-2021] San Diego County, CA – Woman Killed After a Wrong-Way Collision in Vista

An unidentified 24-year-old woman was killed after a fatal wrong-way traffic collision in Vista on Sunday night, January 3.

According to the local authorities’ initial reports, the accident occurred at around 10:20 p.m. on Highway 78, east of Sycamore Avenue.

A pickup truck was initially driving eastbound in the westbound lanes for unclear reasons. The pickup truck then collided head-on with an oncoming westbound sedan driven by the 24-year-old woman.

Both of the drivers were trapped in the wreckage after the crash. They were extricated by emergency personnel. The two drivers sustained severe injuries from the accident and were rushed to the Palomar Medical Center for treatment.

Unfortunately, the 24-year-old woman was unable to survive from her injuries and died in the hospital. Intoxication was suspected to be a factor in the accident.

Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Investigation is Underway

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the case. They will attempt to determine why the pickup truck driver was in the wrong lane at the time of the accident.
