Plane Crash Statistics

Believe it or not, traveling in an airplane is faster and safer than driving or taking the train, but plane crashes often result in fatalities or serious injuries for the passengers on board. Equipment failure, design problems, inadequate repair or maintenance, pilot error or air traffic control errors are more commonly to blame for plane crashes than a simple fall from the sky.

In spite of the fact that plane crashes are rarer than vehicle or train mishaps, they are far more common than you might imagine. In 2012, there were more than 1,500 aviation accidents in the United States alone.

More than one fatal aviation accident occurred every 100,000 flight hours in 2019, according to a joint report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). There are now an average of three small aviation crashes every day in the United States alone.

Compensation is available to those who were injured or killed in a plane crash, regardless of the severity of the injuries or fatalities.
