Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

Everyone dreads getting into a car accident because of another driver’s inattention. Even if the other driver refuses to stop, the situation will only get worse unless they accept responsibility and offer assistance.

Drivers who flee the scene of an accident without reporting it are known as “hit-and-runs.” In 2016, 2,049 people were killed in hit-and-run accidents in the United States. Hit-and-runs occur in the United States every year at a rate of 682,000. It’s not uncommon for pedestrians to be the victims of hit-and-run drivers.

In many accidents, the negligence of other people is a major factor, and pedestrians have no means of protecting themselves from this.

There are numerous reasons why a driver might attempt to flee the scene of an accident. Undocumented, uninsured, or otherwise vulnerable people may be more likely to get behind the wheel after a night of heavy drinking.
