The US Coast Guard said the incident occurred off the coast of the Channel Islands.

The report said three missing people are being searched for by the US Coast Guard, US Navy, and Customs and Border Protection following a reported aircraft crash.

A helicopter crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station San Diego is helping search for a missing aircraft that reportedly crashed near San Clemente Island, the southernmost of the Channel Islands. The debris field was found around one mile southwest of the island where the aircraft was believed to have crashed.

The time of the crash, the conditions of those on board, and the cause of the crash are still unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
